Gomba

Gomba - one of the PostArt slumdogs

Kibera is Kenyas second biggest slum area; an endless, chaotic and enormous mass of sheds with brown sheet metal roofs. There is one toilet for every 100 inhabitants and the area is well known for its “flying toilets” – people there shit in small plastic bags, tie a knot and throw it over the roofs!

In the middle of the slum live our ‘PostArt Slumdogs’. They are a group of artists who have decided to use their art to improve and embellish the area. They make colourful paintings often with a political message and many of them work with children in the area. They teach them how they can express themselves through drawing and painting.

Gomba is 35 years old and he is a part of ‘PostArts Slumdogs’. His paintings are comic strips often with humorous comments about life in the slum.
