Jeff Wambugu

Jeff is painting in a corner outside behind his house. If he is not careful the cow will eat his painting gear when he leaves it for a few minutes.  He does not have a proper studio and he does not sell a lot, but he lives a simple and straight forward life together with his wife and their two small children. This makes it possible for him to paint. Their house is on their family estate, so they don’t have to pay any rent. The cow delivers milk and his wife grows the land – and in this way they get food on the table every day.

Jeff is 33 years old. He started 12 years ago as a sign writer, but when his older brother started painting and set up a studio, he was inspired to paint more than just signs for local shops. In 1998 he met Tani Shine, who was an established artist and he became his mentor. Shine encouraged him to focus on his own very special style and also helped him to sell some of his paintings through the alternative art gallery Banana Hill Art Studio.

Jeff paints with warm and light colours. He builds up his paintings with a palette knife and let figures appear out of the colours.
