Peter Okoyo
Thanks to a helpful Dutchman who saw Peter’s talent and sponsored his education, Peter is an artist today.  Actually many coincidences and helpful people have guided him into the world of art. When he finished high school he did not have enough money to continue into university. Therefore he hung around the art school in the slum area of Kisumu and the people there let him follow lessons in the school for more than two years without paying for them. Later on he began teaching at the school but when he found out that there was a large group of street boys who came to the school but were not allowed to paint, he decided to pay back his debt. He left the school and went to Nairobi where he lived in the slum of Kibera. Here he was volunteering in a street childrens’ project dealing with art. After a year he was offered a job as project manager. Today he is studying at the University of Kisumu and he paints to support his family. He is married and has two daughters.
