Solo-7

Solo7 - one of the PostArt slumdogs

Kibera is Kenya’s second biggest slum area; an endless, chaotic and enormous mass of sheds with brown sheet metal roofs. There is one toilet for every 100 inhabitants and the area is well known for its “flying toilets” – people there shit in small plastic bags, tie a knot in it and throw it over the roofs!

In the middle of the slum live our ‘PostArt  Slumdogs’. They are a group of artists who have decided to use their art to improve and embellish the area. They make colourful paintings often with a political message and many of them work with children in the area. They teach them how they can express themselves through drawing and painting.

Solo7 is one of ‘PostArts Slumdogs’. His paintings are colourful with characteristic figures and he often uses materials that he has found around Kibera. He is known all over the area for his political art and throughout Kibera you see his “fingerprints” – small paintings with ironic messages about life in the area.
