Willis Otieno

Willis’ passion is abstract painting, but there is absolutely no market for this in Kisumu. His customers are mostly local people who want a portrait or to buy decorations for their own houses. He dreams about a life where he can support his family through art and where his paintings will affect the minds and the feelings of people who look at them.

Willis is 31 years old and he lives together with his wife and their two children. He is out of an artistic family; out of 7 brothers and sisters four are practising artists today. His older brother[ who is a painter] has been a great source of inspiration to Willis. Like many of the other Kisumu artists Willis has attended the local art school and today he tries to make a way of living by selling his paintings.

Mostly Willis works in acrylic and he is still seeking his own style in the paintings. You will find paintings with patterns, abstract motifs and more romantic settings or even oriental inspired landscapes.
